EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
AAL Forum - Active Ageing: Smart Solutions, New Markets

15 September 2010 - 17 September 2010 Odense, Denmark

The Ambient Assisted Living Forum (AAL Forum 2010) aims to provide a platform for all stakeholders – investors, researchers, policy makers, industry providers and end-users – to discuss smart solutions for improved quality of life in later years. Ambient Assisted Living Technology is a relatively new and vibrant field of investment, research and development. Policy makers are already exploring options and planning on future technology investments in this area. Several regional and national initiatives are emerging around Europe to support public and private investment. In support of this, the 2010 AAL Forum will now launch and host the first ever European 'AAL Investment Forum'. The objective of the one-day Investment Forum is to improve communication between investors and researchers and introduce investors to projects which require immediate and/or long term funding. The event will provide a matchmaking bazaar and tailored presentations for investors, software developers and other interested parties.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Procurement of eHealth solutions - postponed to October

19 April 2010 Brussels, Belgium

This workshop is an initiative of the eHealth Procurers' community, supported by the European Commission. The objective of the workshop is to share experiences and best practices on procuring eHealth services. National and regional cases will be presented and discussed in depth. The main objectives of the workshop are to a) Facilitate the exchange of best practices for deploying sustainable eHealth services procurement strategies and specifications; b) Promote the creation of synergies to increase quality & interoperability of deployed solutions as well as to launch innovative services; and c) Support the sharing of technical knowledge and expertise needed to deploy complex eHealth procurement tools & services. Within the context of this event, the EC aims to bring together high-caliber professionals, with extensive expertise and knowledge in the cross-section of the eHealth and Procurement fields.

Conference on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in innovation

14 April 2010 Valencia (Spain)

Neelie Kroes is closing the Conference "The European Framework Programmes: From Economic Recovery to Sustainability", where a series of new Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in innovation will be launched. The event will discuss how new technologies can help completing the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy. The conference is taking place on April 13 and 14 in Valencia (Spain).

Conference "The European RTD Framework Programmes: From Economic Recovery to Sustainability"

13 April 2010 - 14 April 2010 Valencia

The Spanish EU Presidency in collaboration with the European Commission organises in Valencia on 13/14 April 2010 the conference "The European RTD Framework Programmes: From Economic Recovery to Sustainability". In addition to the role DG Information Society plays in the ongoing public-private partnerships of the recovery package, notably Factories of the Future, Energy-efficient Buildings and the European Green Car Initiative, the Commission will launch on 14 April a new public-private partnership on Future Internet. Opened by Ms. Cristina Garmendia, Minister of Science and Innovation, Government of Spain, high-level participants from public and private stakeholders will debate the state-of-play and trends in the different public-private partnerships initiated by the European Commission. The conference will close with a speech by Commissioner Neelie Kroes. Following the conference, on 15/16 April, DG Information Society will hold in the same premises the open 5th Future Internet Assembly (FIA) conference which will bring together some 350 participants from more than 90 projects working on the Future of the Internet.

Health-e-Child Final Conference - Reminder!

Establishing the European Virtual Physiological Human Institute

(6 April 2010)To provide strong support for both the European Union Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) research initiative and the global "Physiome" community, the process to establish a European VPH Institute has now officially started. The idea to establish a VPH Institute dates back to the STEP VPH Research roadmap where it was suggested to establish a European Institute dedicated entirely to the Virtual Physiological Human (VPH). This idea has been re-proposed and expanded in the recent "Vision & Strategy" document of the VPH Network of Excellence, and has received overwhelmingly positive reaction by the research community, with nearly 300 signatures from over 30 countries. The Pro Tempore Board of Directors has now formally entered the formation process, which should be completed before the end of 2010.

U.S. Access Board releases a draft of the updated standards and guidelines for ICT

(7 April 2010)On March 17, the U.S. Access Board released for public comment a draft of the the "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Standards and Guidelines." The released draft includes proposed revisions to various performance criteria and technical specifications that are designed to improve accessibility, add clarity to facilitate compliance, address market trends, and promote harmonization with other guidelines and standards. Products and technologies covered by this rulemaking include telephones and cell phones and other telecommunication products, computer hardware and software, websites, media players, electronic documents, and PDAs, among others. Access is addressed for various disabilities, including those that are sensory, physical, or speech-related in nature. As part of this rulemaking, the Board proposes to supplement its ADA Accessibility Guidelines, which cover access to facilities, to broaden coverage to include certain types of interactive transaction machines such as point-of-sales machines and self-service kiosks.

(19 March 2010)Update: The content of the EHTO Web Site was, again, certified by the certification entity "HON-Health On the Net" (a Swiss non-governmental organization) operating at Global level, being the official body in the European space in charge of the assessment of existing World's Health and Internet websites.

PREVE - Prevention of Disease at the eHealth week 2010

(16 March 2010)PREVE project's mission is to analyse and present prerequisites, knowledge foundation, and a coherent "plan of action" for ICT research directions targeting the prevention of disease and the preservation of health – tailored to the individual citizen. The lead idea of PREVE is "having the individual as a co-producer of health" and empowering individuals to take responsibility of their health with personalized ICT enabled PHS technologies and services. Therefore the project paves the way for a health service environment where individuals and health professionals work jointly towards health goals.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Reminder! 4th call for Proposals under the ICT Policy Support Programme (based on WP2010) closes on 1st June

(Deadline: 01/06/2010) The ICT Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP) has an overall budget of € M 730. In 2010 the annual budget amounts to more than €116 million. It will go to beyond €140 million in 2013. The total funding available for this theme is 14 M€ and it is intended to fund actions under four objectives of which the two ICT for Health "Enlargement of the pilot "epSOS" on eHealth Interoperability for patient's summaries and ePrescription" and "Scaling up of eHealth services and supporting the EU eHealth governance initiative".

New project INTERSTRESS Tests Technology Solution to Stress

What if lowering your stress level was as easy and as much fun as playing a video game? What if all of the work was automated for you, with reminders on your mobile phone? What if the system that achieved this was so smart, it changed the program the second you changed your behavior? This is the vision of a new project funded by ICT for Health, European Commission. Called Interreality in the Management and Treatment of Stress-Related Disorders, or INTERSTRESS for short, the project aims to design, develop, and test an advanced ICT-based solution for the assessment and treatment of psychological stress.

Regulatory framework for electronic communications in the European Union

Further to the adoption of the EU electronic communications reform package in November 2009 the Commission produced a collection of relevant texts concerning the new rules. This collection of texts is now available online and could be a useful resource for those concerned with the application of law in the electronic communications sector. The booklet includes a consolidated version of the electronic communications framework as amended in 2009, as well as other applicable rules, such as those related to frequency policy.
