The Fluid-Structure Interactions Lab (LIFE) (http://www.etseq.urv.es/life/) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) (www.urv.cat) in Tarragona (Spain), is looking for an enthusiastic research student with a strong interest in fluid dynamics to apply for one of the FI 2012 grants given by the Catalan Government. Successful candidates will join a small but very active multidisciplinary team, working in fluid dynamics and fluid-structure interaction problems. The research will be mainly experimental and focused in the area of fluid-structure interaction with application to several engineering problems. The ongoing research lines in the LIFE group are:
- flow-induced vibrations in offshore structures
- fluid-structure interactions in bio-inspired design
- flow induced vibrations offshore energy generation devices
- Fluid-structure interaction in offshore floating wind turbines
The research studentships will cover URV´s PhD registration fees plus a monthly stipend.
CANDIDATES: Successful candidates must hold a good a Master degree in Engineering (equivalent to a MEng/MSc, 4 or 5 years course), preferably in Mechanical, Industrial, Aeronautical or Civil Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Matlab, C/C++, FORTRAN or other scientific programming language.
- LabVIEW or other instrumentation oriented programming language.
- Mechanical engineering design tools such as Pro/Engineer, Solidworks…
- Finite Element packages such as ANSYS, ABAQUS,…
- Experience with the use of experimental techniques with emphasis in optical measurement techniques, especially PIV.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Interested candidates should look for the application information in AGAUR's website: http://www10.gencat.cat/agaur_web/AppJava/english/a_beca.jsp?categoria=predoctorals&id_beca=17901 and also send the following documents by email, to Francisco J Huera-Huarte (francisco.huera@urv.cat):
