CZ: Over 800 000 entries per month now made in electronic health records

(16 November 2011) The number of entries made by doctors in the electronic health records (EHRs) of the Czech national IZIP system now averages over 800 000 per month, a new record reported on 1/11/2011. The recent increase in use of IZIP has been particularly high in the two regions covered by the pilot project 'The quality of care - A2G', which began in September 2011. Reminder: 'eHealth and Equity in the Global Health Communities' workshop

15 December 2011 Brussels, Belgium

The workshop will seek answers to questions such as: What types of disparities does this ease of access minimize or exacerbate? How are health systems and their governance influenced by these eHealth solutions, policies and practices? What evidence is there to strengthen activities and programmes that support local, regional, national and global health communities? We particularly seek experiences and lessons learnt in low-resource settings including contributors from developing countries. This workshop will act as a means of dissemination of the key findings to high-level decision-makers; as a promoter of stronger commitment on eHealth interoperability and its wider application at global level and as a preparatory forum for selecting issues to present at the forthcoming World Health Assembly. Summaries (one page) and presentations (7 slides) should be submitted by 18 November 2011 to events@eurodyn.com. A special focus will be given to proposals submitted by developing countries.

euHeart- In-silico simulation of the patient's heart for selecting the best therapy and optimizing its outcome

31 October 2011

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a highly relevant and epidemiologically significant contributor to loss of quality and quantity of life within Europe with considerable impact on its economy. It causes over 1.9 million deaths in the EU every year with a total estimated cost of EUR 169 billion. The diversity and quantity of available data in current clinical workflow present a significant opportunity to improve clinical care of CVD. At the same time, the clinical practice of using population-based metrics derived from disparate diagnostic tools, imaging devices and physiological measurement systems can indicate contradictory treatments plans due to inter-individual variability in pathophysiology. The euHeart project is working on the In-silico simulation of the patient's heart to address these issues and to provide the best assistive decision-making tool.

The Commission will report back on the KET policy recommendations in a communication at the beginning of 2012. The KETs approach brings support to the full supply chain of nanoelectronics in Europe, from basic research to manufacturing.
