FPI PhD Fellowship at the GRUP D'APLICACIONS BIOMÈDIQUES DE LA RMN (GABRMN) associated to project SAF2011-23870. The information is stated at http://gabrmn.uab.es/jobs-and-fellowships
At the GABRMN we work in the improvement of the diagnostic, prognostic, and therapy response evaluation of brain tumours, using non-invasive techniques based on magnetic resonance (MR). Specifically, MR spectroscopy gives us information about the tumoral metabolome. We apply this technique either to preclinical models (i.e. stereotactically-induced tumours in mice, or transgenic models) or translationally in clinical studies in humans. Our group is multidisciplinary, and we are biochemists, clinicians, engineers or mathematicians. If you would like to know more about us, you can check our web page (http://gabrmn.uab.es/) and some of our most recent publications: [1-5].
We are looking for a person that fits into one of two possible profiles, to do her/his PhD with us in the frame of the following project "Improvement of Magnetic Resonance based Molecular Imaging strategies for brain cancer diagnosis and therapy response monitoring (MARESCAN)" financed by MEC (formerly MICINN).

Profile 1
Development of clinical decision-support strategies, using MR spectroscopy in vivo, and for molecular imaging of human brain tumours.

Profile 2
Improvement of molecular imaging strategies based in MR for diagnosis and prognosis of brain tumours in preclinical models (mice). Search for non-invasive therapy response biomarkers.

Specific requirements
In both profiles, it is mandatory to have a good English language level.

For profile 1:
Degree in a bioinformatics-related discipline. A completed master degree is a plus. Alternatively:
Full engineering degree in biomedical engineering, informatics, physics or telecommunications.
Proven programming skills in JAVA. Programming skills in C++, Matlab and IDL is a plus.
Interest or proven capacity to develop biomedical applications of artificial intelligence techniques.
A completed master degree will be a plus.

For profile 2:
Degree (licenciatura/grado) in biology, biochemistry, veterinary science, medicine or biotechnology. A completed master degree will be a plus
Official certificate of ' animal handling for research purposes' course will be a plus.

Characteristics of the fellowship
FPI fellowship (contract) associated to a SAF project(http://www.micinn.es/portal/site/MICINN/menuitem.dbc68b34d11ccbd5d52ffeb...)
48 months from the start date. Full-time.

Applications
The interested persons should address to:
Professor Carles Arús (Carles.Arus@uab.es)
A curriculum vitae, as well as electronic copy of documentation relevant to the merits declared in this CV. Furthermore, the names and e-mail contact addresses for at least two people that may provide scientific/academic references for the candidate must be provided.

Deadline
Check the MEC (former MICINN) web page: http://www.micinn.es/portal/site/MICINN/menuitem.dbc68b34d11ccbd5d52ffeb...
