CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Challenge 5 under ICT Call 10: ICT for Health, Ageing Well, Inclusion and Governance

(Deadline: 15/01/2013) Challenge 5 builds on the previous research activities on health, ageing, inclusion, and governance. It aims to support innovation and activities closer to the market like pre-commercial procurement actions and platforms supporting social innovation. The focus will be on development of solutions that empower the individual, in a social context, to improve and manage personal life as a citizen, elderly, patient, consumer, civil servant or worker. The "ICT for Health activities" will address the "health management" continuum from lifestyle to disease management and the research in the computational modelling of human patho-physiology. The "ICT for Ageing and Independent Living" activities will focus on empowering people with age related dependencies or disabilities to live independently. "ICT for smart and personalised inclusion", will focus on the development of accessible solutions for personalised interfaces to smart environments and innovative services. Research in "ICT for Governance and Policy Modelling" will address collaborative governance supported by ICT tools empowering citizen and increasing transparency in decision making. A new activity will support collaborative, collective awareness ICT platforms for grassroots social innovation towards a more sustainable future.

European Accessibility Requirements for Public Procurement of Products and Services in the ICT Domain: Final Draft of Mandate 376 for review

(2 August 2012) A new advanced draft of the EC-mandated (M376) European Standard EN 301 549 has just been published for commenting. See in particular chapter 9 for the web and chapters 10 and 11 for applying W3C WCAG2.0 also to electronic documents and software applications interfaces, and the related annexes C9 to C11 for verifying conformance. Comments are due by 15th September 2012. Call for Review: Applying WCAG to Non-Web ICT

(31 July 2012) WAI invites comments on the First Public Working Draft of Applying WCAG 2.0 to Non-Web Information and Communications Technologies (WCAG2ICT). This draft document provides guidance on how Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 can be applied to non-web information and communications technologies (ICT), specifically documents and software. It does not discuss whether or not WCAG 2.0 should be applied to non-Web ICT. For this draft, WAI particularly seeks comments on: * The overall approach of the document. * The "Additional Guidance" in this draft. * Additional key terms to be defined in this document. * Is it necessary or helpful to provide guidance on applying the principles and/or guidelines? (This draft currently provides guidance only for success criteria.). Note that only the success criteria are used for determining conformance to WCAG 2.0. New official website of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP)

(31 July 2012) The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) launched its new official website to the public - www.aal-europe.eu The portal, with its simple and fresh layout, is the next phase of the AAL JP public outreach. It is a critical tool to help the AAL JP capitalise on the growing importance of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for ageing well. The website has been designed to communicate to relevant wide variety of stakeholders and it focuses on the projects that have already been funded along with the future funding opportunities offered by this programme. Together with this website, the AAL JP is also publishing its new Google+ page, so that interested parties can become more connected to our activities, read our latest initiatives, and see pictures. The Linked In, as well as the You Tube page, have also been refreshed to engage the continuosly growing AAL community in Europe. Mike Biddle, President of the AAL Association, said in a statement that "this new website will provide useful tools and information for end-users, businesses, researchers and policy makers about the activities of the AAL JP". And he continued, "The portal will also provide information on the funding opportunities offered by the programme, and will offer the chance to highlight the outcomes of the projects already in place".

European Prizes for Innovation in Public Administration

(13 July 2012) The European Commission plans to award up to nine Prizes for Innovation in Public Administration following a contest. The prizes will reward excellence and innovation in successful, already running, and innovative public initiatives managed by any national, regional or local public administrations from EU Member States or Associated Countries of the Research Framework Programme. They will have made significant improvements in citizens' lives by strategies, services, networks, processes and infrastructure offered by public Administrations troughout Europe. The awarded money of 100,000 EURO per prize winner will be used by the winning public administration to scale up and expand their initiative thereby leveraging and inducing further excellence and innovation in public administration. The contest will open on 17 September 2012 and close on 15 February 2013.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Study on women active in the ICT sector — SMART 2012/0066

(Deadline: 29/10/2012) The aim of this low-level study is to identify, analyse and provide follow-up analysis to the most effective practices in view of replicating and scaling up and fostering structural and culture change. It will analyse existing data and studies with the view to arriving at a set of figures which could serve as an 'economic case' for fostering higher participation of girls and women in ICT studies, careers, digital world. Furthermore, the study will look at ICT-related careers image change, i.e. the fact that an ICT-related profession and career may mean working on world changing and addressing multidisciplinary challenges. It will also explore what it MEANS to have ICT skills and how and where they can be employed.

CALL FOR TENDERS
Study on Web apps and Services in Europe - SMART 2012/0040

(Deadline: 21/09/2012) The study will analyse the impact of the apps economy on growth and jobs in Europe. The objective is to know the size of the apps economy in Europe as well as the type of new jobs created. This knowledge together with the identification of the bottlenecks will pave the way to the preparation of a roadmap of policy actions to take the full benefits of the emerging apps economy for Europe.

e-Inclusion & digital public services

25 September 2012 - 25 September 2012 Cambridge, UK

The conference will present the Digital Agenda for local and regional governments and demonstrate the use of digital platforms to empower employment policies and social inclusion. Good practice and new business models in e-Government will also be discussed. This will also be the final conference of the DIEGO-project, which will be presented as an effective method to promote inclusion through the use of new technologies in public administrations

Report from the concertation meeting on future research agendas for e-accessibility of 7 June 2012

This concertation meeting was organized by the Commission services (Unit "ICT for Inclusion" - DG Information Society, now DG Connect) with representatives of the main research or innovation projects or networks/studies currently or recently funded which have a significant relevance for discussing needs and road-mapping future research in that area of e-accessibility. The report covers the keys issues form the presentations given and the subsequent discussions. The supporting slides are also annexed.
