Top News First Horizon 2020 calls for eHealth projects launched The European Commission is calling for new projects. They are to be funded under the Horizon 2020 program, worth more than €15 billion over the first two years. eHealth is well represented in this. Researchers and innovators in ICT for health and care are requested to apply either before 15 April 2014 or 21 April 2015. See also: Retweet this Read more... Survey shows interest in Health Avatar According to a survey of the MyHealthAvatar project, a majority of respondents would be interested in a personal 'Health Avatar' to have access to their health data and share information with their doctor. Calendar Horizon 2020 info day for procurers (23/01/2014) This info and networking day deals with pre-commercial procurement and public procurement of innovative solutions (PCP/PPI) regarding the calls for proposals for the Horizon 2020 work programme. It is open to procurers in any area of public interest. Med-e-Tel conference 2014 (09/04/2014 — 11/04/2014) This year's Med-e-Tel conference will cover topics such as telehealth for chronic disease management, telehealth service standards, telenursing, eLearning, open source software in healthcare, eHealth in low resource settings and developing countries, and much more. Policy Let's get rid of the waiting room - Blog post by Neelie Kroes I just saw a documentary on television about Greenland, the biggest island in the world with a surface of 2 million square kilometres and nearly 56,000 residents. In the documentary, a woman travelled 2,000 kilometres to the nearest hospital to give birth. That's about from Brussels to the South of Italy. Read more... Research €4.9 million project helps Europeans manage their weight The European Union has co-funded a project in which researchers and businesses join forces to help people manage their weight and increase physical exercise using emerging technologies and information systems. Read more... Blood glucose management tool gets CE label The EU-funded REACTION project has received CE marking for their GlucoTab device. The GlucoTab, a mobile system for blood glucose management, can now be used for diabetes patients outside of clinical trials. Read more... Bridging the gap between EU research results and service provision How do we get European research results out of the lab? A new project called HAIVISIO will help EU-funded eHealth and active and healthy ageing projects to set a common strategy for jointly disseminating their results. EU awards 6 million to project for COPD multi-morbid patients To help patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and to reduce the burden on our health systems, the EU has awarded about 6 million euros to the WELCOME project. It aims to create innovative solutions such as an integrated care management tool and a monitoring vest. Read more... See also: Retweet this Innovation Small scale telehealth initiatives can reduce costs and help patients In the UK, small scale telehealth initiatives have announced spectacular successes like 45% drops in hospital admissions, 30% reductions in length-of-stay and 60% fewer bed days. See also: Retweet this EU project gives guidance to further eHealth interoperability in Europe The EU-funded Antilope project has released guidance documents and educational material for national, regional and project-based use in order to bring eHealth interoperability in Europe to a higher level.
