Microscopy & Analysis Technician

CIC energiGUNE is a recently-created R&D centre focusing on basic, collaborative, multi-disciplinary research in the field of Energy Storage and Renewables.

We are now inviting applications for the position of Electron Microscopy (EM) Technician in the area of Electrochemistry for Energy Storage, to support the Research Leader to custom-build the area´s EM platform.

The Fundación CIC energiGUNE is one of several CIC centres now operating or at start-up stage that together form the spearhead of basic research in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country in a variety of fields. The Centres enjoy a secured budget appropriate to their mission and a committed environment for promoting basic research oriented.

The research centre operates within the framework of recently approved long-term research plans and will concentrate on basic research with the aim of achieving breakthroughs for electricity storage in battery and electrochemistry systems, with an emphasis on interface phenomena and novel material development.

We are offering a Permanent position at the Area of Electrochemistry for Energy Storage that will give you a unique opportunity to apply your capabilities and develop new projects related to this technical platform.

Within your responsabilities as a EM Technitian, you will assume a technical role operating the Electron Microscopy Equipments (TEM - TECNAI G2 F20 S-TWIN (FEI), SEM - Quanta 200FEG (FEI)), as well as associated spectroscopic techniques (EDS, EELS).

You will also be responsible for their maintenance as well as development, functioning and methods. This position will also require your participation in research projects, and outreach events.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Technician capable of taking this unique opportunity with:

• Ms preferably Physics or Chemistry. PhD is not compulsory but will be valuable.
• Specific knowledge of electron microscopy and related spectroscopy techniques applied to electrochemistry for Batteries and Supercaps.
• At least 3-4 years experience participating in sample preparation for EM and research projects related to this field. (please attach specific publications or recommendations).
• Ability to analyse and solve problems associated with research outputs.
• Self-motivated with willingness to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team

Applicants should be fluent in English, while a knowledge of Spanish and/or Basque will be considered useful but not compulsory. All applicants are invited to submit a detailed curriculum vitae and two reference letters.
