ESS-Bilbao is searching for a specialist to serve as the technical expert on all aspects of vacuum furnace operations and supervise technicians in the Precision Braze Shop. The main duties of such a post will focus onto
serving as a interface with the machine shop to physicists and engineers on all aspects of vacuum furnace operations including brazing, cleaning for UHV, heat treating, stress relieving and project fabrication. The successful candidate will direct a group of mechanical engineers/technicians that provide assembly and/or coordination of fabrication, maintenance, modification, and upgrade activities related
to various accelerator systems and carry out complicated brazing and assembly tasks requiring an exceptional degree of skill and versatility in the use of brazing furnaces and high temperature alloys. Monitor furnace operations to assure safety and compliance with appropriate procedures, policies, and regulations.

Qualifications
A degree in either Mechanical or Materials Engineering or combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience managing a technical team in a research and/or manufacturing environment required.

Desired: A background in the technical aspects of vacuum
furnace brazing methods. Knowledge of the metallurgical aspects of metals joining methods (brazing, welding, soldering) is highly desirable. Knowledge of UHV systems and components including ion pumps, turbomolecular
pumps, ion gauges, residual gas analyzers, and helium mass
spectrometer leak detectors is also desirable.
