Engineering Leadership Program: Technical Sales Engineer

1.0       Description:

Based in Madrid, as a Technical Sales Engineer you will be part of a team of trusted advisors who customers (engineers, technicians and scientists) consult before starting a new project.

Engineers, technicians and scientists from the broad customer database will work with you as a technical advisor to discuss their measurements, automation and control needs and look for the right tools to meet their challenge.

Applications range from simple temperature monitoring and logging, to large and complex control systems. The Technical Sales Engineering team is also responsible for supporting Field Sales Engineers, preparing quotes and organizing meetings; they work together to win sales opportunities.

National Instruments is committed to the new Technical Sales Engineer?s success and will provide training in order to develop excellent technical advice for all NI core product lines and platforms; including LabVIEW, PXI, CompactRIO and Data Acquisition.

A Technical Sales Engineer uses his/her strong problem solving and communication skills, and passion for technology to find solutions and help customers achieve success.

2.0       Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, interacting directly with customers to advise and consult in the design of their application using NI?s line of core products and services by:

  • Providing technical advice to enquiries from customers and discussing their application via phone and/or email.
  • Listening, identifying and communicating customer needs and requirements.
  • Proactively organizing and delivering web presentations.
  • Making outbound calls to customers that have shown an interest in NI products. through our website, NI seminars and industrial trade shows.
  • Leaning on the sales and engineering teams? expertise and knowledge in order to find the best solutions for customers' application. This includes liaising with other ELP Engineers and organizing meetings between the Field Sales Engineers and customers.
  • Generating proposals and quotes for products and systems based on the technical advice provided.
  • Following up on proposals/quotes and following through the final sale.
  • Keeping accurate records of all enquiries and ensuring interactions with customers (quotes, phone calls, emails, leads) are recorded to our database.
  • Participating in trade shows, technical seminars and other marketing events with other ELP Engineers, Marketing Engineers and Field Sales Engineers.
  • Participating and contributing in, regular internal training, meetings and recruitment activities.
  • Attending periodic meetings with the sales team.
  • Participating in technical and business projects within the ELP.

Experiencia y aptitudes deseadas

3.0       Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Telecommunications, Electronics, Physics or related degree.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation & control, industrial automation, or RF is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of National Instruments products are strong assets.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, enjoy working in a team environment and getting along well with people.
  • Strong problem solving skills to analyze the problem and think creatively to provide a solution.
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Superior telephone etiquette and ability to deal effectively with customers.
  • Being a team player as well as working effectively alone.
  • A proactive/can do attitude is vital.
  • Sales experience in business to business (B2B) will be considered.
  • Minimum B2 equivalent English skills.
  • Catalan language skills will be a plus.
  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Willing to relocate to Madrid.

4.0       Reporting:

The Technical Sales Engineer will report directly to the Technical Sales Manager.
