Securing Europe's Information Society - Towards a European IT Governance?

29 September 2010 Brussels, Belgium

In the first of a series of events, ENISA will gather opinion leaders from the European Commission, European Parliament, and Council as well as major industry representatives to discuss a policy framework for securing Europe's future information society, while addressing aspects such as securing infrastructures, fighting cyber crime, promoting standardisation, enhancing ePrivacy and educating on ICT security.

Access for all in the desktop, web and mobile field: an end-user and developer perspective

7 October 2010 - 8 October 2010 Sevilla, Spain

This 1st AEGIS International Conference will showcase the world's most influential open source, web and mobile accessibility projects and bring together developers and people with disabilities. It gathers presenters and exhibitors that address assistive technology in Rich Internet Applications (RIA), desktop applications and mobile applications, as well as developer tools that embed accessibility plug-ins. It is organised by AEGIS, a research & development project supported by the European Commission. The AEGIS project develops software for persons with disabilities, covering the desktop platform, the web and mobile devices. It has just released an extension for the OpenOffice.org Writer that enables users to save documents as Braille or to send them directly to a Braille embosser.

Brokerage event : Find your ICT PARTNERS face2face

This international information and brokerage event is organised by Ideal-ist in cooperation with other international networks for research, innovation and business and the European Commission. Organised during the ICT2010 conference, it aims to make research, innovation and business communities aware of funding opportunities offered by the Framework Programmes of the European Union and to foster potential co-operations through dedicated networking activities, such as the offered face-to-face meetings.

PEP-NET Summit

23 September 2010 Hamburg, Germany

This event is organised to promote eParticipation in Europe. It will bring public servants, practitioners, politicians, representatives of grass-roots organisations and academics together to share their knowledge and to kick-start new ideas and initiatives. The event will be attended by a broad spectrum of eParticipation actors and will feature a range of high-level speakers from political bodies, major corporations, and universities. The Pan-European eParticipation Network (PEP-NET) is a Commission-funded project that promotes co-operation between European organisations involved in eParticipation. The network has over 50 members and has been active during the past three years. The event will be hosted by the City of Hamburg.

CALL FOR TENDERS
Financing a software infrastructure for highly parallelised codes (SMART 2010/0052)

(Deadline: 08/09/2010) The study should identify: which are the communities that develop application codes for supercomputers and grids; which are these codes, what are the machines they run on, who are their users, what are the results they produce and which of them could eventually scale up for exploiting the High Performance Computing and GRIDS infrastructures; what have been the funding mechanisms for such development up to now (national grants, international agreements, EU); and who actually owns the property rights for such codes, as well as the different code-licensing schemes and to identify what should be the governance model for such an infrastructure.

Development of impact measures for e-Infrastructures (SMART 2010/0051)

(Deadline: 17/09/2010) The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of e-infrastructures on the knowledge society. To this end the study should define different types of impact categories and develop indicators which would measure these impacts. The study should include the identification of appropriate economic and econometric models describing the ways in which e-infrastructures impact modern economy. The study should be based on different types of information collected, based on both quantitative and qualitative data.

EPoSS General Assembly and Annual Forum 2010

7 October 2010 - 8 October 2010 Lisbon, Portugal

EPoSS, the European Technology Platform on Smart Systems Integration, is an industry-driven policy initiative, defining R&D and innovation needs as well as policy requirements related to Smart Systems Integration and integrated Micro- and Nanosystems. This event will offer the opportunity to build a consolidated picture of future challenges and trends in Smart Systems Integration. Participants will be able to contribute, discuss opportunities and network with key representatives from industry, research and the European Commission. The Annual Forum also offers a good platform for dissemination of information on recently started FP7 projects. A call for presentations has now been launched (deadline: 5 September)

(Deadline: 25/08/2010) The objective of the e-inclusion benchlearning study is to review and analyse practices in relation to public policy actions, undertaken by public administrations, agencies or other actors making use of ICT to support and empower vulnerable socio-demographic groups.

W3C Web on TV Workshop: Use cases and requirements for smarter integration of Web technologies, broadcasting and non-PC devices

2 September 2010 - 3 September 2010 Tokyo, Japan

The IT industry is building the future Web platform at W3C. HTML5, CSS, SVG, and other open global standards for Web technology are starting to be deployed in browsers, and the Web community is enthusiastic about a host of new features such as location-based services. W3C has begun to organize a series of workshops to bring the television industry and other producers of consumer electronics into the discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own perspectives, requirements, and ideas to ensure that emerging global standards meet their needs. The first workshop in the series takes place in Japan and emphasizes participation (in multiple languages) by companies from Japan, Korea, China, and other countries in Asia (though anybody may attend). The second workshop, in Europe, is likely to take place during the first quarter of 2011.

Integrating Innovation and Investment: the Ambient Assisted Living Investment Forum 2010

14 September 2010 - 15 September 2010 Odense, Denmark

This year, for the first time ever, the Ambient Assisted Living Forum (AAL Forum) 2010 will be preceded by an Investment Forum. Ambient Assisted Living products and services are ICT-based solutions, such as in-home monitoring devices or telemedicine systems, which help seniors remain independent, active and socially connected for a longer time. The AAL Investment Forum aims to stimulate more innovation and investment in AAL by bringing together innovative ICT enterprises in the Ageing Well market with potential public and private investors. A key activity will be a matchmaking session where innovators can pitch their smart solutions to potential investors. The AAL Investment Forum is not just the place to raise capital, it is also an excellent place to 'reality check' a business case. Investors know what works and what doesn't. You can bounce ideas off of them, and identify the trends, risks and successful strategies in the AAL market. Deadline for submitting applications is 2 August 2010

Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Forum - Active Ageing: Smart Solutions, New Markets

15 September 2010 - 17 September 2010 Odense, Denmark

The AAL Forum is the yearly conference of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme, which aims to invest around EUR 700 million in products and services between now and 2013. It provides a platform for all stakeholders - investors, researchers, policy makers, industry providers and end-users - to discuss smart solutions for improved quality of life in later years. Ambient Assisted Living Technology is a relatively new and vibrant field of investment, research and development. Policy makers are already exploring options and planning on future technology investments in this area. Several regional and national initiatives are emerging around Europe to support public and private investment. In support of this, the 2010 AAL Forum will now launch and host the first ever European 'AAL Investment Forum'. The objective of the one-day Investment Forum is to improve communication between investors and researchers and introduce investors to projects which require immediate and/or long term funding. World leading entrepreneur, inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil will be one of the keynote speakers at this event.

VPH 2010

30 September 2010 - 1 October 2010 Brussels, Belgium

The European Commission launched the Virtual Physiological (VPH) initiative to research and develop patient-specific computer models for personalised and predictive healthcare and ICT-based tools for modelling and simulation of human physiology and disease-related processes. This is the first of a series of conferences to be held by the VPH Network of Excellence (VPH NoE). The VPH NoE is an umbrella project, representing the Virtual Physiological Human Initiative set up by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme. The VPH NoE is also responsible for producing a 'VPH Vision and Strategy Document' in preparation of the next calls under FP7, FP8 and for European large infrastructural actions.

2nd Mediterranean Photonics Conference

29 November 2010 - 2 December 2010 Eilat, Israel

The 2nd Mediterranean Photonics Conference, organised by the association of engineers and architects in Israel, takes place from 29 November to 2 December. The Call for papers includes topics such as Nano-photonics devices, telecoms, fiber optics, optical switching, etc. The deadline for a summary is 10 September 2010.
