Commission insists Latvian consumers should benefit from joined-up mobile networks

(14 March 2012) The European Commission has suspended the plans of the Latvian telecoms regulator which could make it difficult for Latvian consumers to contact friends, family or businesses who use a different mobile network.

Photonics Europe 2012

16 April 2012 - 19 April 2012 Brussels, Belgium

This event will cover the latest developments in photonics, optics, laser and micro/nanotechnologies. It will showcase results for an audience looking for the latest technology insights. The event encompasses conference sessions, workshops, seminars, a "hot topics" session, poster sessions, technical events and an exhibition. It will give an outlook on Horizon 2020, the new EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation that will run from 2014 to 2020. An Innovation Village will provide a window on creative products developed by universities and research centres. European initiatives will show their newest breakthroughs in a European Village.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
A pilot implementation of an innovative lighting solution based on (O)LED technologies

(Deadline: 15/05/2012) This Call invites to submit proposals to sponsor a pilot action for the installation of an innovative lighting solution based on Solid State Lighting (SSL) technologies (LEDs and/or OLEDs) in the Berlaymont building in Brussels, the main seat of the European Commission. The Call is to be seen as part of the European Commission's efforts to promote the wider deployment of advanced SSL and more specifically, in the context of the Green Paper "Lighting the Future".

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a United Nations (UN) summit that was initiated in order to create an evolving multi- stakeholder platform aimed at addressing the issues raised by information and communication technologies (ICTs) through a structured and inclusive approach at the national, regional and international levels. The goal of WSIS is to achieve a common vision, desire and commitment to build a people-centric, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society where everyone can create, access, utilize and share information. The 2012 WSIS Forum will be hosted by ITU. Remote Participation will be an integral component of the Forum. Details on both onsite and remote participation will be available soon.

This event will focus on some of the most relevant topics to boost Future Internet international collaboration: What is the future of Internet and its many applications? How can the interests of platform developers, apps and service providers and future customers be combined ? Which applications, such as cloud computing, future media, and e-commerce, will customers most willingly embrace? Which applications will generate new business opportunities? How can Internet be used to solve major challenges, such as environmental change, healthcare and ageing, and transportation?
