ICT 2010 event: draft conference programme published

(22 January 2010)The European Commission published today the draft programme of the ICT 2010 conference taking place in Brussels on 27-29 September 2010. This biannual event has become a unique gathering point for researchers, business people, investors, and high level policy makers in the field of digital innovation.

ICT 2010 - Digitally Driven: website online

(22 January 2010)The new website for the ICT 2010 research event is now online. The event will take place in Brussels, Belgium from 27 - 29 September. It is organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the Belgian Presidency of the European Union and will examine European Union priorities in ICT research for over EUR 2 billion of funding available in 20011-2012. More than 4000 participants are expected to attend the event. News and updates are also available from the ICT 2010 Twitter page.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
ICT Policy Support Programme: the 4th call for Proposals based on the 2010 Work Programme is now open

(Deadline: 01/06/2010) A call for proposals has been launched under the 2010 Work Programme of the Information and Communication Technologies Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP) as part of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (2007 to 2013). The Work Programme 2010 focuses on 6 themes: ICT for a low carbon economy and smart mobility; Digital Libraries; ICT for health and inclusion; Open innovation for future Internet-enabled services in smart cities; ICT for improved public services for citizens and businesses; Multilingual Web.

Personalised technology conference

Technology is increasingly being used to deliver services. However, it is also increasingly becoming the individual's right to choose how they are supported and whether or which technology should be used. This then becomes personalised technology that encompasses all technology platforms including high and low tech devices. The aim of the conference is to explore how personalised technology can enhance quality of life during a period of increasing economic pressure. The conference, focusing on case studies, will explore the wider context from ethics, individual rights, policy initiatives and practice.

CALL FOR TENDERS
Prior information notice:Implementation of the provisions contained in Article 3(i) (13 of codified version) of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive concerning the promotion of and access to European works in on-demand audiovisual media services.

Tender procedure in the field of Media policy. The study will provide an accurate analysis of the implementation by the providers of measures adopted by the Member States in application of the provisions contained in Article 3(i)(1) on promotion of and access to European works in on-demand services.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
eInclusion of Youth at Risk - INCLUSO 2010 conference

13 September 2010 - 14 September 2010 Leuven, Belgium

This event is organised by the INCLUSO project, aiming to gather international specialists in the field of social software use and improvement of social inclusion for disadvantaged youngsters. Delegates from decision making groups such as governments and the European Commission will be among the participants. A call for papers has been launched (Deadline 8 March). The collaborative INCLUSO project (funded under FP7) aims to deliver a verifiable proof that ICT, and more precisely social software tools, can facilitate social inclusion of youth at risk.

CALL FOR TENDERS
Prior information notice: Challenges of the digital era for film heritage institutions.

Tender procedure in the field of Media policy. This study shall provide a detailed description of the challenges that film heritage institutions are facing in relation to digital production or distribution of cinematographic works (in cinemas or via new channels of distribution). It will establish the legal/organisational/technical changes that should be introduced to ensure that film archives will continue to perform their role in the digital era. It will evaluate the awareness and readiness for changes of film archives and national administrations in the 27 Member States, and identify problems and best practices. The study will analyse and compare the situation in film heritage institutions in US, describe the strategies of American majors and large European production companies for preservation of their digital films. It will also provide policy options for EU action, and recommendations and a calendar to Member States and film heritage institutions for the preparation to the digital era.

eHealth week 2010 - Barcelona

15 March 2010 - 18 March 2010 Barcelona, Spain

For the first time, the Ministerial High Level Conference on eHealth and the World Health IT (WoHIT) Conference and Exhibition are being held in the same week in a joint initiative called "e-Health Week 2010". More than 2500 delegates are expected during this eHealth week, representing the majority of eHealth sector: ministers, members of the public administration, clinics, suppliers and managers of information and informatics systems. An interactive exhibition will gather more than 75 exhibitors and country pavilions. Check regularly the WoHIT website as updates are being made every week.

CALL FOR TENDERS
Contract award notice: Study on "Indicators for independence and efficient functioning of audiovisual media services regulatory bodies for the purpose of enforcing the rules in the AVMS Directive".

The first objective of the study is to analyse the requirements of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive as regards the independent regulators. The second objective is to gather information on the regulation of the following aspects of regulatory authorities in the Member States: measures to guarantee the independence of the regulator ; basic powers which allow for the effective application and enforcement of audiovisual legislation ; adequate monitoring powers including the adequate resources to carry out the monitoring functions ; adequate sanctioning powers including the ability to issue warnings, impose fines and, ultimately, the power to prohibit broadcasting/revoke broadcasting licences.

ALEC 2010 offers peer to peer learning - participants will hear from other European regions why they should work with e-health, how they can develop and implement e-health policies, what challenges they can expect to face and how e-health can contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of services.

A composite index to measure digital inclusion in Europe - 1st part of the study "Analysis of e-Inclusion impact resulting from advanced R&D"

The purpose of this study is to assess how investments in inclusive information society technologies and services have the potential to deliver sustainable and cohesive growth. In order to achieve this objective, the study will look at, and improve on, existing macro-economic models and datasets to capture the impact of inclusive ICT on employability, productivity growth and human capital as factors of economic growth. This first report presents a brief summary of the first part of the research (completed by December 2009) which was dedicated to provide a quantitative evaluation of the e-Inclusion in Europe.
