This position falls within the framework of work on high-intensity linear accelerators at ESS-Bilbao. It will involve calculations in both beam dynamics and electrodynamics. The chosen candidate will be required to become familiar with the physics, mathematics and computational aspects of tracking a bunch of charged particles in electric and magnetic fields, with special emphasis on high-intensity beam issues (space charge, halo formation, loss minimization). He or she will work on the optimization of the layout of the Bilbao linac, as well as on the application of this technology to the design of the ESS accelerator.

Candidates should have an Engineering/Physics degree (or higher), with good knowledge of electromagnetism and electrodynamics. Scientists with experience in particle accelerator physics, as well as junior researchers willing to obtain a PhD degree with us, will be considered for different positions.

Good computing skills are required for this job. Candidates who can prove their experience with mathematical computing environments and electromechanical design programs will be considered first.

Excellent oral and written English is essential; knowledge of French, German and other European languages would be an advantage.

Experience in working in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment in the framework of international collaborations will be appreciated.

Selected candidates may be required to travel to locations such as ISIS, SNS, ANL, FNAL, CERN and ESS (Lund) and to carry out research assignments of varying duration in these locations.

Selected candidates will be subject to an initial two-year contract, which may be extended.
