Innovative approaches for chronic illnesses in public health and healthcare systems

19 October 2010 - 20 October 2010 Square Brussels Meeting Centre, Belgium

The Belgian Presidency of the European Union has decided to draw attention on the crucial issue that we face with chronic diseases by organizing a Ministerial Conference on October 20th 2010. Against a background of innovation and solidarity, this Ministerial Conference aims at bringing the Member States, patients and other relevant stakeholders together to discuss and share experiences and best practices in the field of chronic diseases. The perception of people living with chronic conditions by the society and by patients themselves will be a central theme of the conference. Conclusions on chronic diseases will be presented to the EPSCO Council in December 2010.

EUBrasil Seminar in view of the Dialogue on Information Society and Media between Europe and Brazil

This event will provide a meeting and discussion platform for authorities and industry in Brazil and Europe with a view of strengthening cooperation in the areas of legislation, policy and research in this field. Among the topics to be discussed will be the Brazilian plan for broadband and the European Digital Agenda, as well as policies to reduce the "digital divide".

Procurement of eHealth solutions

7 October 2010 Brussels, Belgium

This workshop is an initiative of the eHealth Procurers' community, supported by the European Commission. The objective of the workshop is to share experiences and best practices on procuring eHealth services. National and regional cases will be presented and discussed in depth. The main objectives of the workshop are to a) Facilitate the exchange of best practices for deploying sustainable eHealth services procurement strategies and specifications; b) Promote the creation of synergies to increase quality & interoperability of deployed solutions as well as to launch innovative services; and c) Support the sharing of technical knowledge and expertise needed to deploy complex eHealth procurement tools & services. Within the context of this event, the EC aims to bring together high-caliber professionals, with extensive expertise and knowledge in the cross-section of the eHealth and Procurement fields. Registration is free but compulsory before the workshop.

Towards enhanced eHealth governance: What next for cross border healthcare and further deployment of sustainable ICT applied to health?

12 October 2010 European Parliament, Brussels

Ahead of the debates in the European Parliament and the Council on the Commission's proposal for a directive on the application of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare, a high level event on an enhanced eHealth governance and next steps for cross border healthcare and further deployment of sustainable ICT applied to health is hosted by MEP Parvanova in the European Parliament from 9.00am until 12.45pm. In the framework of the Barcelona Declaration on e-Health signed in March 2010, and building on the outcomes of the successful breakfast meeting on The benefits of eHealth investments in the healthcare sector in the European Union that took place in June, the aim of this half-day event is to exchange views and propose solutions regarding the challenges and opportunities towards more efficient and sustainable healthcare systems in Europe, for the benefits of patients, healthcare providers and the society as a whole.

EHTEL 2010 Symposium - eHealth in Europe's Regions: Acting for Citizens' Health

22 November 2010 - 23 November 2010 Brussels, Belgium

The Symposium is being jointly organized EHTEL, the Assembly of European Regions (AER) and the European Regional and Local Health Authorities (EUREGHA) and is hosted by the Committee of Regions (CoR). This event will address the question what eHealth can do for supporting Regional health policies and, vice versa, what can the Region do for deploying eHealth services. The registration will be open in the coming days via the ehtel website.

Crossing boundaries in eHealth: the CALLIOPE think-tank and collaborative platform

16 November 2010 European Parliament, Brussels

The CALLIOPE Thematic Network will hold its closing conference, at the European Parliament, for celebrating 3 years of stakeholder engagement on eHealth Interoperability. This event will feature the CALLIOPE proposal for a European eHealth Interoperability Roadmap towards Sustainable Health. The "eHealth Governance Initiative" in charge of following-up the Council Conclusion on eHealth of 1st December 2009 will take this roadmap over and will be invited for joint reflections on those achievements. PSIP: Patient Safety through Intelligent Procedures in medication

Adverse Drug Events harm patients and generate unproductive extra healthcare costs. It is a major public health Issue. The PSIP project aims at developing innovative computer-based applications able to automatically detect situations at risk and to deliver healthcare professionals and patients relevant "ad hoc" information helping them to prevent Adverse Drug Events. The 2-page document presents the challenges faced and the results achieved so far.

New heart scanner is giving doctors their clearest ever view inside the human body. The 3D high defination scanner allows surgeons at a hospital in Plymouth in southern England to spot problems well before a patient suffers a heart attack or even shows any symptoms.
