Breaking down barriers to research - consultation on the European Research Area

(13 September 2011) The scientific community and other interested groups and individuals are today being asked to help redefine the research landscape in Europe. The European Commission has launched a public consultation to find out how the European research environment can be radically improved. The goal is to achieve the European Research Area (ERA) by 2014, creating a genuine single market for knowledge, research and innovation. This will enable researchers, research institutions and businesses to circulate, compete, and co-operate across borders, increasing growth potential.

PRESS RELEASE
Digital Agenda: further action needed to safeguard children - Commission report

(13 September 2011) How Member States are implementing EU Recommendations ensuring children can enjoy the digital world confidently and safely are reviewed by the European Commission in a report presented today. Member States and industry are increasingly making efforts to implement EU Recommendations dating from 1998 and 2006 on the protection of minors using audiovisual and online services. But the measures taken have been insufficient overall.

Digital Agenda for Europe - Going Local

16 September 2011

The European Commission is "Going Local" to all Member States, to discuss key areas of the Digital Agenda for Europe with targeted audiences. In 2010 similar visits were held in Member States. This year's "Going Local" will build on this experience and expand its scope. Meetings are planned in capitals but also in other cities, and events are adapted to specific priorities in Member States, focusing on country-specific issues. The objectives of this exercise are: Reporting on progress of the Digital Agenda; Identifying challenges for the future; Stimulate actions and commitments. Next week, events will be held in Norway, France, Hungary and Poland.

ICT Finance MarketPlace Venture Academy and Investment Forum for SMEs

27 October 2011 - 28 October 2011 Poznan, Poland

ICT Finance MarketPlace is an initiative to improve access to finance for innovative ICT Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). The event is run in conjunction with the Future Internet Week at the same venue. SMEs, coaches and investors are expected to attend. The Venture Academy consists of a one-day, coaching event where experienced coaches from relevant industry areas will help SMEs pragmatically to develop their pitching skills towards potential investors. The Investment Forum offers SMEs the opportunity to showcase their business in front of an international network of venture capital and corporate investors, strategic partners and expert advisors.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Future and Emerging Technologies Information Day on Call 8 of ICT-FP7

11 October 2011 Madrid, Spain

This information day will cover the following strategic objectives of Call 8 + FET Open: Unconventional Computation ; Dynamics of Multi-Scale Complex Systems ; Minimising Energy Consumption of Computing to the Limit ; Coordinating Communities, Identifying new research topics for FET Proactive initiatives and Fostering Networking of National and Regional Research Programmes. A FET project officer will present the content of each one of them, and give special guidance to the goals and type of projects expected. In parallel, the other Scientific Officers will hold bilateral meetings with potential participants (10-15 minutes each), to discuss specific proposal ideas.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
ICT Call 8 Information- and Networking Day - Intelligent Information Management

26 September 2011 Luxembourg

This event will focus on the ICT Call 8 Objective "Intelligent Information Management (Objective ICT-2011.4.4)", aiming to "...scaling up data analysis to keep pace with the rate of growth of data streams and collections and enable novel forms of real time intelligence that only become possible on extremely large data volumes". The purpose of the event is to inform about the scope of the call and to assist prospective proposers, preparing project proposals, to facilitate sharing of ideas and experiences. It will give participants the chance to network, to find partners for their projects and get feedback on proposal ideas from officials of the European Commission. Participation is free of charge but subject to prior registration and confirmation.
