Pre-doctoral position (PhD Grant) in the Research Unit for Cognitive Computing: Computing with Perceptions at the European Centre for Soft Computing.
Reference: ECSC_Offer_2011_CGC_01
Type: FPI Grant of 4 years, two first years of grant and last two years of contract. FPI are grants that the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation gives to research organisations for the development of PhDs by young researchers. Our Centre obtained this one in the last call.
Research Unit: Cognitive Computing: Computing with Perceptions
Topic: Linguistic Description of Complex Phenomena
Description: The objective of the project is the design and development of a new family of computational systems capable of generating linguistic descriptions of complex phenomena.
This type of systems will be used in supervision and control applications and especially in the development of user interfaces based on the use of natural language.
On a theoretical level, we expect to make significant contributions in the research line of Computing with Words and Perceptions proposed by L.A. Zadeh. On the practical level, we will produce a methodology and various application prototypes that will represent the core for the industrial exploitation of the new methodology.
Required academic degree: Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or Physics.
Other advisable requirements:
 Knowledge about Fuzzy Logic and Soft Computing
 Theoretical knowledge and applications of Computing with Words and Perceptions Theory proposed by L.A. Zadeh
 Fluent English (written and spoken)
 Good inter-personal and analytic skills, ability to concisely formulate and pursue ideas
