- Live streaming of the Get Online Week Launch Event

(7 March 2012) Today, March 8 between 9h15 and 11h, Telecentre-Europe TV will organize a live streaming from the launch event of Get Online Week 2012. The event will take place in the presence of Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission responsible for the Digital Agenda, at Telecentre-Europe AISBL's headquarters in Brussels and hosted by the Belgian member organization Interface3, a telecentre network run by women for women. As the launch event takes place on International Women's Day, one of the main themes will be addressing the role of women in ICT for empowerment, employment and growth. Get Online Week 2012 is a digital inclusion campaign on 26th-30th March in Telecentres: public internet centres in NGOs, libraries & education venues. Get online week 2012 will help people to get online, find work, learn new essential ICT skills, and get more out of life. It will bring together 5.000 telecentres in at least 50 countries across Europe, Eurasia and Africa to support at least 200.000 people in their online journeys.

- 5th Call for proposals of the AAL Joint Programme

(Deadline: 29/05/2012) The 5th Call for proposals of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme focuses on the development of ICT-based solutions which enable and sustain older adults to continue managing their daily activities in their home. This call aims also at ICT-based solutions which support informal carers in their assistance. The call launched on 29 February 2012, with a proposal submission deadline of 29 May 2012.

- European Commission establishes new eHealth Stakeholder Group

(29 February 2012) Following the recent call for expression of interest (closed in January 2012), the European Commission has selected 29 members to participate in its new eHealth Stakeholder Group. Members of the group, appointed for a period of three years, are expert representatives of European umbrella organisations active in the eHealth sector. The group is expected to contribute to the development of legislation and policy related to eHealth. Policy areas of specific interest include relevant actions of the Digital Agenda for Europe on eHealth and the forthcoming eHealth Action Plan. The complete list is available online.

The report summarizes the multi-stakeholder discussion organized at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from 17 to 18 November 2011. The discussion focused on challenges of and practical solutions for promoting personalization through technology in the classrooms for students, particularly with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. The report includes a number of successful case studies - among them EU funded research project UMSIC (Usability of Music for Social Inclusion of Children) - and recommendations on how educators and students could use existing technological solutions in classrooms, and how UNESCO's ICT Competences Framework for Teachers could be applied for teachers' capacity building on issues related to the accessibility.
