Workshop on Social Inclusion and Related Technologies (with a particular focus on social computing and inclusion), 21 January 2010, Brussels

(1 January 2010)As a follow-up to some explanatory EC research projects on the use of ICT for social inclusion of Marginalised Young People, this workshop will discuss the technology potential of affective / persuasive / and in particular social computing, that could contribute to new developments for further improving social inclusion and independent living in education environment and at workplace. In addition to some invited speakers, participants will have the possibility to briefly present relevant research ideas.

Joint AAL Programme and ICT-PSP consultation meeting on ICT and Ageing, 15-16 February 2010, Brussels

(4 January 2010)This Consultation meeting will bring together experts from all over Europe. The objective of the 2-day meeting is to provide strategic guidance for future research under the AAL Joint Programme and possible future topics for the ICT Policy Support Programme in the field of ICT & Ageing for 2011 and beyond. The outcome will be used as input for the preparation of future calls for proposals. Participants are invited to submit short presentations of ideas in advance (maximum 3 slides).

Call for papers on Ambient Assisted Living - "Electronic Markets" Journal

(5 January 2010)"Electronic Markets" has publisehd a call for papers on Ambient Assisted Living for a forthcoming issue of its "focus theme section". The main objective is to answer various questions from a networked business point of view. It aims at concepts, methods, tools, services, and cases addressing the socio-technical as well as the socio-economic impact of ambient assisted living solutions. How can AAL-specific solutions support individuals to enhance the quality of their life? Which new applications, technologies and services will emerge in the next years? How far will such solutions and/or technologies lead to new networked business opportunities on the industrial as well as on the service level? Which user-centric factors (barriers, motivational factors, etc.) influence adoption and diffusion processes?

Silver Economy Network of European Regions conference

28 January 2010 - 29 January 2010 Limoges, France

The conference will include a roundtable on "Regional silver economy and ageing strategies - examples and lessons learned" with experts from different European regions. There will be a series of parallel workshops - WS1: "Strategies for ageing in the area of employment and voluntary work", WS2: "Ageing well and well-being" and WS3: "Local strategies for independent living". The Good Practice Competition is also now open and interested parties are asked to submit their applications online.
