- Call for papers on eAccessibility for the next ePractice Journal issue - deadline extended to 4 June 2010

(12 April 2010)The objective of the forthcoming edition of the ePractice Journal (tenth edition) is to showcase the state of the art, present examples of best practice and highlight the challenges of eAccessibility implementation in the Information Society. This issue of the journal calls for contributions from scholars, industry, users and practitioners in all areas of eAccessibility. The European Journal of ePractice is a peer-reviewed online publication on eTransformation. The Journal belongs to the ePractice.eu community, is sponsored by the European Commission as part of its good practice exchange activity and is run by an independent Editorial Board. The aim of European Journal of ePractice (EJeP) is to reinforce the visibility of articles as well as that of professionals in eTransformation building an author's community which will strengthen the overall ePractice.eu activity. The publication has a target audience of 50,000 professionals in Europe and beyond, and build on a community of some 25,000 members. The deadline has been extended to 20 May 2010.

It aims to provide both a physical meeting platform, supported by an advanced web 2.0 social media platform for all stakeholders – investors, researchers, policy makers, industry providers and end-users – to discuss and share smart solutions for an improved quality of life in later years. - Future BNCI website launched

(3 May 2010)This website aims to serve as a central resource for information about Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems and Brain/Neuronal Computer Interaction (BNCI).Content will be developed partly through input from the community, and contributions are welcome to the discussion forum, Intellectual Property repository, reference database, links and other resources. The site is hosted by the Future BNCI project, a Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme.

- Digital Agenda: Commission welcomes European Parliament's support

(5 May 2010)The European Parliament's views on Europe's digital future have been welcomed by European Commission Vice-President for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes. In particular, the Commissioner welcomed proposals from Parliament that all EU citizens should have access to broadband internet by 2013, be able to use their mobile phones as a mobile wallet and have access to all public services online by 2015. The Commission will take into account the European Parliament's Resolution adopted today in the preparation of its forthcoming Communication on a Digital Agenda for Europe, one of the flagships of Europe 2020, the Commission's new economic strategy for Europe.

The program will include information about the idea behind the call for proposals, the process and timetable, and national eligibility criteria. A 3-5 minute presentation slot for presentation of project ideas will be provided for participants who wish to do so. Time for networking, Questions and Answers and discussions are also planned. Participation, lunch and coffee will be free of charge, travel and accommodation arrangements should be paid and planned by the participants.

Many AAL stakeholders, especially service organisations, SMEs but also political bodies and administrations, are operating on a regional level. In particular, end users and family carers have mostly a regional or even local perspective. Access to markets, especially for new systems solutions, are possibly easier on a regional level because of already existing networks and activities between main actors and supportive regional policies and programmes as e.g. special credit schemes for senior citizens. The AAL Association would like to welcome representatives of regions or projects closely related to regions for a first exchange of information and possible interest and ideas for cooperation in the area of Ambient Assisted Living. Deadline for registration is 20 May.

The headline theme of the meeting is 'The social model for Assistive Technology-technology transfer (AT-tt)'. This social model assumes that the development of AT is something that has to be driven by the goal of achieving an inclusive society – and so there are moral, financial, business and scientific issues to understand and manage. Participants are expected from business, academia, health or social care and users of assistive technology. A call for contributions has been launched (outline to be sent by 31 May). This workshop is organised by Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe and the University of Sheffield.

(Deadline: 28/05/2010) The Commission has published a Call for Proposals under PROGRESS, the EU's employment and social solidarity programme, with a view to selecting – on the basis of a triennial strategic plan – EU-level NGO networks to work with the Commission and receive Union support on a stable and regular basis for the period 2011-2013. The Union support is not intended for specific projects, but to cover the costs inherent in the functioning of a European NGO network over a period that is equivalent to its accounting period. - Coping with an ageing population – Learning from good eHealth and telecare practices (SMART 2010/0023)

(Deadline: 04/06/2010) The overall objective of the study is to give an overview of how different national models of long-term care have reacted to the challenge of an ageing population and promoted the deployment of home care services through the use of ICT for older people with chronic diseases. The study shall also demonstrate the actual and potential social and economic gains that are associated to these services. The geographical scope of the study is the EU27, Norway, Iceland and Croatia.
