- MSc or PG Dip Digital Inclusion

(21 May 2010)The Middlesex University is now recruiting students for the MSc or PG Dip Digital Inclusion. This Digital Inclusion Masters and PG Dip course focuses on these social and ethical issues and the technological aspects of ensuring equality of access to ICT and the benefits from using ICT. Modules cover the legal and regulatory framework, web accessibility and inclusive design. The Middlesex University Design for All Research Group (DfA-RG) led the development of curriculum guidelines on Design for All in ICT which was supported by the Design for All at eInclusion (DFAEI) project. This research project is funded by the European Framework Programme for research and involves 23 partners across Europe.

- RegioStars 2010 winner in the category ICT applications for e-inclusion announced

(21 May 2010)The "Window to the Future" project of Lithuania has won the RegioStars 2010 award in the category ICT applications for e-inclusion. In 2008, "Window to the Future" was already winner of the European Commission's e-inclusion Awards in the Digital Literacy category.

The program will include information about the idea behind the call for proposals, the process and timetable, and national eligibility criteria. A 3-5 minute slot for presentation of project ideas will be provided for participants who wish to do so. Time for networking, Questiions and Answers and discussions are also planned. Participation, lunch and coffee will be free of charge, travel and accommodation arrangements should be paid and planned by the participants.

Developments in telecare (the provision of health and social care at a distance) are rapidly evolving and information and communication technology (ICT) aims to cover an increasingly wide range of care practices and innovations. But these interventions are occurring in an ethical and democratic vacuum, which makes it critical to explore and analyse the everyday ethical, social and gender implications of technological interventions for older citizens, caregivers and health-care systems. This conference provides an opportunity for practitioners, users, carers, policymakers and scholars involved or working on these issues to meet and talk. Over two days, it proposes to exchange experiences and debate the actual and possible consequences of telecare developments, for all European stakeholders.

This conference, organised by the Belgian Privacy Commission, will take place in the context of the 2010 Belgian EU presidency and focuses on several target groups : the European data protection authorities, national and international academics and researchers. The objective of the workshop on Social Inclusion and Related Technologies organized by the Unit ICT for Inclusion on January 21, 2010 in Brussels was to generate possible R&D topics for the future research agenda with a particular focus on social computing and inclusion. The workshop was held in conjunction with a concertation meeting of currently running projects in the Unit, focusing on Marginalised Young People and ICT. The morning session addressed the related technologies and the afternoon session focused on policy, social and user aspects.
