European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing - The Marketplace for Innovative Ideas is open for business

(3 April 2012) A new website, the "Marketplace for Innovative ideas" has been launched as part of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. The Marketplace is an interactive website designed to help those that are interested and involved in the Partnership to work together and develop their innovative ideas. The Marketplace will also include an online workspace for the Action Groups of the Innovation Partnership once they are formed this summer, and will provide more information about the Reference sites once they are selected in 2013.

European Get Online Week: over 200.000 Europeans now online!

(5 April 2012) Last week, more than 10.000 telecentres across more than 50 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa were full of excitement. Education venues, libraries, NGOs or Internet Access Points offered support to use technology and the internet, through out a series of stimulating activities. The Get Online Week counter stopped at 142.544 people involved, but this doesn't tell the whole story of the campaign this year. Another almost 10.000 people took the youth ICT skills assessment tool Skillage and more than 60.000 Get onliners have been captured by other internet tools used by telecentres during the last week.

e-Skills Week 2012 Copenhagen Declaration Launched

(30 March 2012) DIGITALEUROPE in partnership with European Schoolnet - thirty Ministries of Education - and in collaboration with a number of European e-Skills Week Stakeholders will this year again produce the e-Skills Manifesto: the official publication of the European e-Skills Week 2012 campaign. As a complement to this activity the partners and stakeholders in European e-Skills Week have produced the e-Skills Copenhagen Declaration, which supports the objectives of the 2007 Communication from the Commission to the Council, the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions and is a complement to the e-Skills Manifesto. The Copenhagen Declaration has received the endorsement of thirty eight organisations, and many more will join in supporting the implementation of a grass roots activities to deliver competiveness, productivity and growth to Europe, through a strong commitment to ensuring that all European citizens are equipped to work and participate in the digital economy of the 21st century.

EvAAL Competition (Evaluating AAL Systems through Competitive Benchmarking) - Submission deadline is 15 April

(5 April 2012) EvAAL is a newborn initiative (developed as a project under the AALOA association) that aims at bringing together both academic and industrial research communities to work together on challenging and open problems in Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), with the purpose of evaluating different approaches and envisioning new research opportunities. The competition comprises two tracks and a final workshop: • Track 1 on Indoor Localization and Tracking for AAL, to be held on the 2-6 July, 2012 at the Living Lab of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain • Track 2 on Activity Recognition for AAL, to be held on the 9-13 July, 2012 at the CIAmI Living Lab in Valencia, Spain • EvAAL workshop to be held in conjunction with the AAL Forum on the 24-27 September 2012, Eindhoven, NL

eAccess+ Survey of Accessibility Advocacy

(5 April 2012) The purpose of this survey is to gain insight into the depth and breadth of work currently being undertaken by professionals involved in the creation and promotion of Accessible ICT, in order to better understand the challenges faced, where improvements are required and how best to facilitate and support these improvements. The survey was launched on launched March 30 2012, and will be open until April 30 2012. eACCESS+ is an EU-fudned project that intends to establish, co-ordinate and systematically grow a platform for co-operating, discussing and improving the implementation of eAccessibility throughout Europe.

REACH112 Final Conference

28 June 2012 - 29 June 2012 Santiago de Compostela, Spain

The final conference will present the outcomes and impact of the REACH112 project (www.reach112.eu) so that countries and agencies can deploy REACH112 type of services. The REACH112 project has significantly improved telecommunications performance in person to person communications, in the provision of relay services and in direct access to emergency services ("112"). Person to Person Communications and Next Generation 112 Accessibility using Total Conversation (i.e. a combination of voice, video and real-time text) will be presented. The event will also look at the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing, regulatory issues, and standardisation. End-users, relay services and emergency services will explain their experiences and participants will have the opportunity to use the REACH112 implementation. Ways forward towards accessible communications and Next Generation 112 will be presented. Demonstrations and examples of Total Conversation calls between persons, via relay services and to 112 will be provided. Booths will be available to showcase REACH112 solutions and visits of the installations of REACH112 in a 112 Emergency Call Centre will be organised.

AAL Forum 2012 – Tomorrow in sight: from design to delivery

24 September 2012 - 27 September 2012 Eindhoven, The Netherlands

This year, the annual forum of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme will focus on the following main themes: EU and national policies; AAL projects: outcomes and future; from research to business: delivering innovations; cutting edge ideas. Around 1200 participants from across Europe are expected, including users and care organisations. Visiting tours will take participants to discover the Smartest Region of the World 2011 (Eindhoven region) and its way of approaching the demographic change. The core values for each participant at the AAL Forum 2012 will be enclosed in FIVE i's : Information, Inspiration, Imagination, Interaction and Innovation. The special venue for this year's forum is the UFO-shaped Evoluon in Eindhoven.

Chronic, degenerative and incurable, Parkinson's disease affects five out of 1000 Europeans over 60 years old. Researchers are now using the latest technologies, including video games, to improve the accuracy of early diagnosis and provide patients with better rehabilitation treatments.
