Calendar (16/10/2012) The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) is organizing in collaboration with Members of the European Parliament Heinze Becker, and Lambert Van Nistelroy an event with two main goals: firstly to share the outcomes of the AAL JP following five years of stimulating innovation in the field of ICT for ageing, resulting in SMEs and other organizations building new supply chains and collaborations. Secondly, to illustrate the advantages of a follow-up Joint Programme across Europe for the period 2014-2020 and explore how we could stimulate economic growth whilst improving the quality of life of EU citizens. The most important achievement of the AAL JP so far has been the supply chains that have been built and consolidated across this emerging sector, connecting SMEs and other organisations with new suppliers and customers. The AAL JP is well positioned to drive opportunities for economic growth across Europe that the demographic shift represents and has had other significant achievements. Building on the extensive work and joint efforts to date which have established this success story, the AALA is working to develop a follow-up for the joint programme – beyond 2013. All future activities will take account of the evolution of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA) and Horizon 2020. On the basis of already existing cross-border e-government pilot services and other EU initiatives, the study aims to explore and substantiate the existing and future needs (including socio-economic, environmental, legal and even sector-specific needs) and demand for cross-border e-government services. It will carry out an in-depth quantitative and qualitative cost-benefit analysis to demonstrate how cross-border e-government services can make mobility in the EU less burdensome, provide added value to citizens and businesses and why deployment of new cross-border public services is needed. The study will identify and assess the organisational, legal, technical and semantic barriers that hinder the deployment of cross-border e-government services in the EU and consider their solutions. As a conclusion, the study will identify and propose options for the development of cross-border public services with the highest potential impact. Contract signed with Capgemini Nederland BV in partnership with Time.Lex BV CVBA, Tech4i2 Ltd and Universiteit Antwerpen on 21.12.2011 under the Contract No 30-CE-0455872/00-78. The contract runs for 13 months. The development and greater use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is one of the priorities in the European Union (EU) long-term strategy „Europe 2020", which aims to promote the smart, sustainable and inclusive economic growth of the EU. The international forum going local was held on the 12th of September, 2012 in Riga to discuss implementation of the „Europe 2020" ICT flagship „Digital Agenda for Europe" in Europe and Latvia. A special 3D microchip, being designed by an EU-funded research project, looks set to drastically cut the electricity and the installation costs of servers in cloud computing data centres, cementing Europe's place as the home of green computing. Cloud data centres – thousands of computer servers in one location - can be the size of football fields and consume the same amount of electricity as 40,000 homes. The data centres are essential because they enable the cloud computing revolution: consumer services like Facebook, Gmail, Spotify and mobile apps, and business services like customer databases The European Commission's new strategy for "Unleashing the potential of cloud computing in Europe" outlines actions to deliver a net gain of 2.5 million new European jobs, and an annual boost of EUR 160 billion to EU GDP (around 1%), by 2020. The strategy is designed to speed up and increase the use of cloud computing across the economy. 'Cloud computing' refers to the storage of data (such as text files, pictures and video) and software on remote computers, which users access over the internet on the device of their choice. This is faster, cheaper, more flexible and potentially more secure than on-site IT solutions. Many popular services such as Facebook, Spotify and web-based email use cloud computing technologies but the real economic benefits come through widespread use of cloud solutions by businesses and the public sector. This year's workshop will include 3 different sessions: - Chronic diseases: diagnosis, monitoring and treatment - Telemonitoring & Telehomecare / Telemonitoring and Telecare services - Telemedicine and Robotics for better quality of life. Research PatientVille takes its name from the movie DogVille, that uses an extremely minimal, stage-like set. Like DogVille, PatientVille used a minimal set-up with as few props as possible to tell its story. The PatientVille exhibition tells the story of a chronically ill patient that suffers from a heart disease, and demonstrates how eHealth supports coherence in the patient's course of treatment. The journey included a demonstration of care and how data is shared between the pre-hospital sector (ambulance), hospital, municipality, general practitioner, pharmacy, and the patient's own home. PatientVille also included a demonstration of cross-border e-prescription (epSOS) at a Danish pharmacy. |
