Agrotecnio Center, a CERCA center located in Lleida, Spain invites applications for a well-qualified candidate to work on research towards a PhD degree at the University of
Lleida within the framework of a multidisciplinary project involving different groups at the Center.
The position is for a contract for an initial period 24 months, starting on 15 October 2014 (or as soon as possible after that date). The selected candidate will develop a
research program focused on Optimizing nitrogen use in cereal crops under Mediterranean agriculture, working in a multidisciplinary environment under the cosupervision
of Drs Roxana Savin (Crop Physiology Lab) and Carlos Cantero
(Agronomy Lab). Supervision will also be provided for research work on particular aspects of the research program by Drs Teresa Capell and Paul Christou (Molecular
Biology and Biotechnology), Jordi Voltas (NUE through analysis of stable isotopes)and Ramón Albajes (Entomology).
It is expected that the successful candidate:
(i) will have a degree in agronomy, biotechnology or biology with high grades (not less than an average of 2, scale 0-4)
(ii) must qualify to be registered as a Doctoral Student at the UdL (possessing or being very close to finishing a Master Degree for candidates who have got a degree in Spain,
or possessing a degree giving access to doctorate studies for overseas candidates)
(iii) must be fluent in spoken and written English (proficiency in Spanish is an advantage, though not a requirement)
(iv) should be able (and enjoy) to work as part of multidisciplinary and multicultural
team
We offer an attractive working environment, a contract with a gross salary of c. 17,000 euros per year, and our full support for the candidate to apply for scholarships (from the Spanish or the Catalan system or from others which may be available) to complete thePhD degree.
