Call 8/2014-1
REQUIREMENTS
The Optical Networks and Systems Department of the Communication Networks Division from the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya announces the availability of a post-doctoral position. For more information about our Department please refer to http://networks.cttc.es/ons/
The position is associated with the "Scalable and efficienT oRchestrAtion of Ethernet services Using Software-defined and flexible optical" STRAUSS project, funded within the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme FP7/2007-2013 under the grant agreement nº 608528, and by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT). STRAUSS project aims to define a highly efficient and global (multi-domain) optical infrastructure for Ethernet transport, covering heterogeneous transport and network control plane technologies, enabling an Ethernet ecosystem. Particularly, STRAUSS addresses the requirements of future optical infrastructures for Ethernet transport beyond 100 Gb/s, integrating software defined networking as well as flexible data plane technologies, including scalable programmable optical transceivers supporting bandwidth variable multi-flow transmission.
The post-doctoral researcher will be involved in the design, development and experimental assessment of software defined optical transmission systems based on multi-flow bandwidth/bitrate variable transceivers based on optical multicarrier modulation formats. Particularly, the selected candidate is expected to design and implement optimized digital signal processing modules and develop resource-efficient techniques for cost-effective and low-complexity programmable optical transceivers, as well as experimentally investigate cost-effective DSP-based transmission schemes for rate/distance adaptive transmission over reconfigurable optical paths. Furthermore, the post-doc also will be asked to work in close cooperation with the team of the Optical Networks and Systems (ONS) Department and with the STRAUSS Partners involved in the activities for the design, development, integration and experimental assessment of the sliceable, bandwidth variable transceiver solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates must hold a PhD degree in telecommunications engineering, with a solid background in fiber optic communications and on the principles and fundamentals of the main optical components and photonic devices for telecommunications. Also, candidates are asked to have a good publications record showing proven experience in digital signal processing for optical communications with particular focus on multicarrier modulation techniques, both OFDM and DMT. Particularly, expertise in cost-effective implementation schemes using direct detection and low-complexity processing techniques, including PAPR clipping and quantization noise mitigation and adaptive bit/power loading methods is required. The candidates should be also familiar with the use of alternatives to the Fast Fourier Transform (e.g. Fast Hartley Transform) for the OFDM signal generation. Another important requirement is the ability/proficiency in developing DSP modules/tools using both Matlab and Python languages.
Highly appreciated is also lab experience, with particular emphasis on the use of high speed digital to analog converters as well as common optical measurement methods.
Applicants for this position must be very motivated, with capacity of carrying out innovative research. Experience in in national and international R&D projects in the context of R&D institutions is a plus.
CONDITIONS
The contract is linked to the duration of the STRAUSS project. The rank and salary will be determined according to qualifications and work experience. Applications should include a curriculum vitae including list of publications, a concise statement of research interests, and the names and addresses of at least two referees. The application documents must be submitted through the online application. http://www.cttc.es/career/post-doctoral-position-in-the-optical-networks-and-systems-department/
Formal evaluation of candidates will begin on 31 January 2015 and will continue until the position is filled. For further information, please contact info@cttc.es.
