Información complementaria de la oferta:
We are interested in therapeutic targets for HIV, emphasizing on the role of the viral reverse transcriptase. Our efforts have been directed towards two major goals: (1) understanding the role of different residues in nucleotide specificity as well as fidelity of DNA synthesis, and (2) the elucidation of molecular mechanisms involved in RT inhibitor resistance. Future short/middle term research plans include investigating the RT connection and RNase H domains as targets of antiretroviral intervention, the viral integrase activity and resistance to integrase inhibitors, the characterization and analysis of HIV-2 RT variants, and preliminary studies for the characterization of other viral polymerases as targets of antiviral intervention.
