We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate with strong background in synthetic chemistry to apply a FPU grant in the field of functional materials for organic electronics and optics based on columnar mesomorphic organizations and nanoaggregates in solution. Work will be carried out within the Group of Liquid Crystals and Polymers of the Institut of Materials Science of Aragón of the University of Zaragoza-CSIC.

Candidates must hold a degree in Chemistry or Materials Science. They should also have finalized their master's degree, or do it during the current academic year, preferably in the field of Organic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry or similar.

Candidates should send a full CV including academic transcriptions of the degree and master. To apply (deadline: 30th May) or to obtain further information contact:

Información complementaria de la oferta:
The aim of the project planned is the preparation and investigation of functional polymer systems with novel molecular architectures approached by advanced polymerization methodologies and coupling reactions of the so called 'click chemistry'. Their usefulness for specialized nanotechnology applications such as the production of drug deliver containers will also be evaluated. The candidate will focus on the polymer synthesis and characterisation but also on the generation of supramolecular structures of nanoscale dimensions produced by self-assembly processes in solution. The selection of the type (micelles, vesicles or tubules amongst others) and size of the supramolecular self-assemblies will require from a rational design and optimization of the chemical composition and structure of the polymer. The incorporation of appropriate functional units in the polymeric systems active against light, temperature, pH will afford stimuli responsive materials to be interesting
as smart nanodevices to encapsulate and release active molecules on demand.

The candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team and will be working in an enthusiastic and motivated research environment. We offer fully equipped laboratories for organic synthesis and state-of the-art characterization infrastructures. The candidate will acquire training in organic (FT-IR, NMR, MALDI) and polymer characterisation (DSC, TGA, XRD, GPC) as well as advanced microscopies (SEM, TEM, AFM).
The group has well settled collaborations with other national and international research groups which offer the possibility to interact and collaborate with scientists from other disciplines and other countries.
