PatientVille - The Danish Health Care Journey

PatientVille

The PatientVille exhibition tells the story of a chronically ill patient that suffers from a heart disease, and demonstrates how eHealth supports coherence in the patient's course of treatment. The journey included a demonstration of care and how data is shared between the pre-hospital sector (ambulance), hospital, municipality, general practitioner, pharmacy, and the patient's own home. PatientVille also included a demonstration of cross-border e-prescription (epSOS) at a Danish pharmacy.

A model for Assessment of Telemedicine Applications: MAST

Telemedicine applications could potentially solve many of the challenges faced by the healthcare sectors in Europe. However, a framework for assessment of these technologies is need by decision makers to assist them in choosing the most efficient and cost-effective technologies. Therefore in 2009 the European Commission initiated the development of a framework for assessing telemedicine applications, based on the users' need for information for decision making. This article presents the Model for ASsessment of Telemedicine applications (MAST) developed in this study. Safe glycaemic control in a hospital ward by REACTION project

REACTION project

The in-hospital care application domain of the REACTION platform features a range of services aiming at safe glycaemic control of patients with diabetes using an individual target level, depending on the history and actual state of the patient. In the general ward, a REACTION application monitors a range of parameters including glucose level, nutritional intake as well as measures of administered drugs (e.g. oral anti-diabetic drugs or insulin) among other parameters (e.g. insulin sensitivity). The data is contextualised in the Data Management component and mathematical algorithms will later be used to calculate the required insulin doses. Results are delivered to clinicians for validation and verification. Their online appraisal can be fed back to the physicians and nurses at the point of care in the patients' ward. For the implementation of the new REACTION application, interfaces to hospital systems will be developed and hospital protocols across wards for administration and glucose management will be required.

Renewing Health Project video

Renewing Health

The traditional delivery models of European healthcare and welfare must be fundamentally changed to better fit to the long-term needs of persons with chronic conditions. RENEWING HEALTH is an European project aiming at implementing large-scale real-life test beds for the validation and evaluation of innovative telemedicine services by means of a patient-centred approach and a common rigorous assessment methodology. It involves 9 of the most advanced regions in the implementation of health-related ICT services, inside a local system where service solutions are already operational for the tele-monitoring and the treatment of chronic patients suffering from diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary or cardiovascular diseases.
