REQUIREMENTS

The Remote Sensing Department from the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicomunicacions de Catalunya announces the availability of a 2-year post-doctoral position. For more information about our Department please refer to http://geomatics.cttc.es/remote-sensing/.

The position is associated with the APhoRISM project, "Advanced PRocedures for volcanIc and Seismic Monitoring", collaborative project funded within the Space Programme of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission (theme FP7-SPACE-2013-1, Remote sensing methods).

The project started in December 2013. It proposes the development and testing of two new methods to combine different types of Earth Observation satellite data and ground data. The aim of APhoRISM is to demonstrate that an appropriate management and integration of satellite and ground data can provide new improved products useful for seismic and volcanic crisis management. More information on APhoRISM can be found here: http://www.aphorism-project.eu/.

The main task of the post-doc is to develop appropriate procedures to validate the two main methods addressed in the APhoRISM project. The first one, related to the monitoring of volcanic crises (volcanic product), is the "Multi-platform volcanic Ash Cloud Estimation" (MACE) method. The second one, which concerns seismic events (seismic product), is the "A Priori information for Earthquake damage product" (APE) method. The post-doc will work in close cooperation with the team of the Remote Sensing Department and with the APhoRISM research groups directly involved in the development of the MACE and APE methods.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate shall have a PhD degree in physics, engineering or related disciplines. Preference will be given to those candidates with proven experience on processing and analysis of radar-based remote sensing data and multi-source (spaceborne and ground-based) passive remote sensing data. In particular, the following specialization areas are highly valued: satellite-based SAR interferometry, persistent scatterer interferometry, remote sensing algorithm development and geomatic validation techniques.

Applicants for this position must be very motivated, capacity of carrying out innovative research as well as experience in research and publication record. Practical and work experience in international and national R&D projects carried out in the context of R&D institutions is highly appreciated.

CONDITIONS

Contract duration is 24 months. The rank and salary will be determined according to qualifications and work experience. Applications should include a curriculum vitae including list of publications, a concise statement of research interests, and the names and addresses of at least two referees. The application documents must be submitted through the online application.
Formal evaluation of candidates will begin on 13 December 2014 and will continue until the position is filled. For further information, please contact marta.agudo@cttc.es.
