CIC Energigune is seeking a candidate to start a PhD to engage in the field of post-mortem analysis for rechargeable Li-ion batteries.

Title of the research project: "Understanding the failure mechanisms of Li-ion cells by Post-mortem analysis"

Goal: The goal of this project is to investigate the failure of Li-ion cells by post-mortem analysis using chemical, physical and electrochemical methods. Special attention will be paid to the development of specific protocols for the characterization different cell components (positive and negative electrode, separators, electrolyte...).

Job function:

 Post-mortem analysis of Li-ion cells to identify and understand failure.

 Design protocols for post-mortem analysis of Li-ion batteries.

 Characterize cell components using analytical instruments.

 Perform the electrochemical post-tests of the materials in half and full cells.

 Understand failure mechanisms and design degradation models.

CIC energiGUNE offers a 36 months grant and advantageous professional development opportunities within the EES area to eligible students who wish to complete their PhD Thesis with us. Financial support will be 18,500€ gross / year (aprox. 15,000€ net / year). Students will be encouraged to apply for financial support by the university or other institutions (i.e. Basque Government).
