The Communication Technologies Division at CTTC invites applications for one Researcher position. The successful applicant will either hold a Ph.D. or MSc degree in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field. It is anticipated that the position will be available as early as January 2016.
The position is associated with the "Spectrally agile solutions for reconfigurable and sustainable transceivers for next generation wireless communications systems (AEThER)" project (TEC2014-58341-C4-4-R), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The AEThER project covers a rather broad scope, but the work related to the advertised post aims at designing, implementing and experimentally validating a flexible hardware-software function partitioning framework whose goal will be to distribute the communication stack functions across different 5G network nodes in order to guarantee different key performance indicators (KPI) related to energy savings, OPEX reduction, coverage improvements and capacity increase. Indicatively the objective of AEThER is to provide:
• Optimal and scalable dynamic allocation of network functions to network nodes
• Optimal PHY/MAC/handover control
• Multi tenancy of communication stack functions, with dynamic sharing and distribution of network resources between service providers
• Optimal communication stack function partitioning and placement in cloud based RAN implementations to support energy efficiency reduction
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The post is open either for i) PhD holders that have recently graduated (18 month fixed-term contract), or ii) skilled MSc graduates with strong experience in the fields detailed next (up to 24 month fixed-term contract). Upon successful completion of the fixed-term contract, a renewal might be considered depending on the achieved performance and the available funding opportunities by that time.
The applicants must have a strong background on embedded systems, Linux kernel and user space programming, RTOS, real-time programming and be familiar with the ARM microprocessor programming toolchain. The ideal candidate would also possess FPGA design skills (from simulation to on-chip debugging) and experience in HW-SW co-design practices applied to device families such as the Xilinx Zynq-7000. The applicants should be able to demonstrate the mentioned skills either through a rich implementation portfolio or through publications in top-ranked journals. Hands-on knowledge or previous exposure on wireless communications standards, digital signal processing techniques, SDR and scheduling algorithms will be considered a valuable top-up asset.
The successful applicant would have to work autonomously and be an excellent team player. He/she will join an interdisciplinary team working towards a flexible cross-layer experimental design. The position holder will also be required to disseminate results through scientific publications.
Development skills in embedded C/C++ are required. Additional knowledge of Matlab, Python and HDL languages (e.g., VHDL, Verilog) will be considered an ideal matching.
Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
For further information, please contact nbartzoudis@cttc.es.
CONDITIONS
The contract is full-time aligned with the duration-frame of the AEThER project (end term December 2017). The rank and salary will be determined according to qualifications and work experience. For applicants holding a PhD degree the salary will be in the range between 33000 and 37000 euro (gross per year). For applicants holding an MSc degree the range will be between 24000 and 28000.
Applications should include:
• Full CV, including list of publications and name (email address, etc) of three referees.
• Transcript of all modules and results from university-level courses taken.
• Cover letter stating the motivation and suitability of the candidate.
CTTC is particularly interested in candidates with good balance of academic qualifications and know-how in their field of knowledge and possibilities to take up the work starting not earlier than January 2016. The application documents must be submitted in pdf format through this online application. http://www.cttc.es/career/researcher-position-in-the-communication-technologies-division/
The deadline for applications is December 15, 2015, but the deadline might be postponed if the position is not filled by that time. Applications will be considered and evaluated on receipt, therefore applying before the deadline is encouraged. For further information, please contact info@cttc.es.
