MORE DETAILS:
We are seeking a highly talented and motivated PhD candidate in the field of Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering. The aim of the Project is the design and development of biodegradable polymeric materials and their microstructuring using different lithographic techniques to obtain patterned culture substrates able to guide cell alignment. Cells are known to respond to chemical, biochemical, physical and topographical cues at the interface. In this project we aim to investigate the fundamental aspects of these cell-substrate interactions in microstructured biocompatible polymeric materials. With this knowledge we seek the rational design of scaffolds structured at different length scales that can provide hints to the growth of cells in well defined morphologies that can eventually lead to a functional tissue.

The candidate will join a highly mustidisciplinary team integrated by Chemists, Physicists and Biochemists. He/she will be involved in the preparation of materials and their microstructuring using different lithographic techniques. The candidate will perform the culture of different types of cells such as fibroblasts or mesenchymal and endothelial stem cells. Inmunostaining assays will be carried out to study cell morphology and comprehend how the microstructure and the biofunctionality induce cell alignment.
