Measurement of intercellular forces in a developing three-dimensional tissue
The main objective of this research project is to develop novel experimental and computational methodologies to measure the spatial and temporal evolution of the intercellular forces during three-dimensional tissue development. These methodologies will be tested and optimized using sophisticated 3D organotypic skin cultures and monitored by confocal microscopy. In addition, the project will measure the movement of GFP-labeled cells (Kinematics), information essential to complement the intercellular forces (dynamics).
This project requires a multidisciplinary approach including biologists, engineers and physicists. Therefore, it will be conducted by a team composted of researches from the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) (Department of Bioengineering and Aerospace Engineering) and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering).
Physicist, Engineer or Biologist with background in Mechanics, Mathematics, and Computational Techniques (including image processing such as Matlab, Python or similar). Experience in working with cell cultures and confocal microscopy will be evaluated very positively.
