Call 5/2015-1
The Communication Systems Division at CTTC invites applications for one Post-Doctoral position. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Telecommunication or a closely related field. It is anticipated that the positions may be available as early as January 2016.
The position is associated with the "Enabling technologies for Licensed and unlicensed Shared Access communications," ELISA, project (TEC2014-59255-C3-1-R), funded by Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. ELISA project aims at designing interference management techniques for shared access either licensed or unlicensed (e.g. high speed Wifi) and 5G networks. The project focuses on PHY and link layer design, specifically: new waveform design and multi-user schemes to achieve high spectral efficiency, MIMO techniques, either centralized or distributed, and massive MIMO. Millimeter wave and optical systems will be also under consideration since they provide access to a wide and almost unused spectrum portion. In addition, energy efficiency will be one of the main constraints when designing those techniques in order to reduce the carbon footprint of ICTs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants for Research Associate positions must hold a Ph.D. degree in telecommunications, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics or related fields, with strong background on signal processing for communications; be capable of conduct independent research and be highly motivated to work in a collaborative environment. The position holder will be required to perform mainly the following tasks: shaping research directions and producing results, disseminating results through scientific publications, organizing workshops, coordinating research projects and delivering outputs, providing guidance to PhD and MSc students.
It is encouraged to have expertise in as much topics as possible within the following areas of interest:
• interference management,
• optimization techniques,
• array and MIMO processing,
• link adaptation,
• filter bank and new waveforms,
• multiuser detection,
• multiple access schemes,
• coding and decoding
• knowledgeable in 5G systems new developments, such as massive MIMO,
• knowledge in digital communication for optical transmission is an added value since a seamless interface between optical fiber and wireless systems is of vital importance for future 5G and open spectrum systems.
Development skills in MATLAB or C++ are required. Exposure to the latest standards in terrestrial and satellite communications as well as theory and methods of optimization are desirable.
Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
For further information, please contact ana.perez@cttc.es.
CONDITIONS
The contract is full-time and it is linked to the duration of the ELISA project (end term December 2017). The rank and salary (28,000 to 32,000 €/year (net)) will be determined according to qualifications and work experience. Applications should include:
• Full CV, including list of publications and name (and email address, etc) of two referees
• Transcript of all modules and results from university-level courses taken
• Research statement and topics of particular interest to the candidate (300 words).
CTTC is particularly interested in candidates with good balance of academic qualifications and know-how in their field of knowledge and possibilities to take up the work in January 2016. The application documents must be submitted in pdf format through the online application. http://www.cttc.es/career/post-doctoral-position-in-the-communication-systems-division-2/
Deadline for applications: December 15, 2015. Applications will be considered on receipt, therefore applying before the deadline is encouraged. For further information, please contact info@cttc.es.
CTTC seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. CTTC is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.
