Job Summary

Post-doctoral fellow in Biology or Medical Sciences with 7-10 yr experience and leadership potential.

Interest in the area of low birthweight and postnatal short- and long-term endocrine-metabolic consequences, including metabolic syndrome, precocious pubarche, early-normal puberty, and ovarian androgen excess and anovulation in girls.

The candidate will apply for a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship Grant and Miguel Servet Grant.

Proficient in routine laboratory techniques (ELISA, PCR) and techniques of DNA and RNA extraction and RT-PCR, microarrays,methylation, cellular cultures and assessment of genetic polymorphisms, among others.

Knowledge in database programs and data analysis (SPSS).

English language (oral and written) at the excellence level (proficiency level). Experience in writing scientific texts and thus familiar with medical terminology.

Commitment to work in a team composed of pediatric endocrinologists and biologists.
Job Description

Post-doctoral fellow in Biology or Medical Sciences. Previous experience in the field (7-10 yr) related to at least one of the research lines of the host group (see below). Leadership potential.

The candidate will prepare a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship application supervised by the Group Leader. The job start-date will be subject to the granting of the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship.

The candidate will prepare a Miguel Servet Granted by the Spanish Institute of Health Carlos III supervised by the Group Leader. The job start-date will be subject to the granting of the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship.

Education in a tertiary hospital and previous stay in a hospital belonging to the European Community for at least 12 months.

Interest in the area of low birthweight and postnatal short- and long-term endocrine-metabolic consequences, including metabolic syndrome, precocious pubarche, early-normal puberty, and ovarian androgen excess and anovulation in girls. These are among the priority research lines of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and are part of an extended line entitled: Adult Diseases of Fetal Origin, coordinated by Dr. Lourdes Ibáñez since 2008 (University of Barcelona; www.hsjdbcn.org).

Since 1998, the host research group has developed joint research projects (and derived manuscripts) with the University of Leuven, Belgium (Profesor F. de Zegher), the University of Cambridge, UK (Prof. D.B. Dunger, Dr. K. Ong) and the University of Girona (Dr. A. López-Bermejo). During 2013, the team has completed, among others, the results of the project entitled: Infant manifestations of adult obesity susceptibility genotypes [Barcelona, Cambridge, INSERM (Paris) & Leuven], supported by a research grant from the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE).

Experience in routine laboratory techniques (ELISA, PCR) and techniques of DNA and RNA extraction and RT-PCR, microarrays, methylation, cellular cultures and assessment of genetic polymorphisms, among others.

Knowledge in database programs and data analysis (SPSS, Prism).

English language (oral and written) at the excellence level (proficiency level or mother tongue), with proven experience (PubMed) in writing scientific texts and thus familiar with medical terminology. Experience in oral presentations at international level.

Commitment to work in a team composed of pediatric endocrinologists and biologists.

The candidate will prepare a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship application supervised by the Group Leader. The job start-date will be related to the start date of the Granted Marie Curie Fellowship.

The candidate must not have lived in Spain more than 12 months in the last 3 years to be eligible for Marie Curie Actions.
