Duties
We are looking for a post doc fellow who will work within a project aimed at finding new blood-based epigenetic biomarkers predictive of drug response, with a focus in the epigenetic alterations of hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer liver metastasis and epidrugs. We have recently reported that 5-hydroxymethylation is an important epigenetic mark in the liver where it influences gene expression (PMID 23958281). In addition, epigenetic mechanisms are also involved in the drug response as well as in the carcinogenesis, with few epidrugs already approved by FDA for the treatment of cancer.
The project is funded by a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant and is in collaboration with European laboratories within EU, IMI, EFPIA and Colipa funded projects. One basis for the work will be to use novel types of 3D spheroid and bioreactors systems in which primary liver cells, including tumoral cells are introduced. In addition, imaging, flow cytometry, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and next generation sequencing
will be employed.
Previous experience of work with primary cells and in vitro systems for studying liver functions and tumoral behavior is meriting for the position.

Entry requirements
Scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies may be awarded to individuals who come from other countries with the intention of remaining in Sweden only while obtaining all or part of their education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish PhD or higher. Having received a salary or other remuneration from Karolinska Institutet during the past two years may be disqualifying.
One requirement for receiving a scholarship for postdoctoral studies is central registration as a postdoc.

Type of scholarship
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies. This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years within five years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent, is tax-exempt.
The amount is set for a maximum of six months at a time and is paid out on a monthly basis.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English:
1. Curriculum vitae and qualifications, presented in accordance with Karolinska Institutet's qualifications portfolio (http://ki.se/meritportfolj )
2. A complete list of publications
3. A summary of current work (no more than one page)
4. Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
5. Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)

Type of employment Postdoctoral studies.
Working hours Full time

The application is to be sent to Isabel Barragan isabel.barragan@ki.se

Información complementaria de la oferta:
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world´s leading medical universities. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of human health through research and education. Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40 per cent of the medical academic research conducted in Sweden and offers the country´s broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. Since 1901 the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has selected the Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine.

Karolinska Institutet strives to provide a workplace that has approximately the same number of women and men, is free of discrimination and offers equal opportunity to everyone.

At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (http://ki.se/fyfa_english) we teach and conduct research in physiology, pharmacology, anesthesiology and intensive care. We have around 350 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students.

Division
The division of Pharmacogenetics at the Department aims their research at understanding the basis for differences between individuals in human drug metabolism, toxicity and drug response. The emphasis is on genetic and epigenetic variants of polymorphism of the genes encoding drug transporters, drug metabolizing enzymes and drug targets.

Pursuant to the regulations of the Swedish National Archives, applications are kept on file for two years after the appointment has gained legal force. The regulations do not apply to attachments that have been printed or otherwise published.
